On January 12, a sectoral meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The representatives of the coordination council of the Georgian National Platform and the co-chair of the EU-Georgia platform met with the Director of the Department for European Integration – Zurab Khamasuridze.

During the meeting, the conversation touched on the importance of fulfilling the 12-point recommendations of the European Commission. Was discussed the achievements and challenges that are important to be solved in order for the country to receive the status of a candidate country of the European Union.

Initially, the director of the department presented the directions and areas where the department is actively working, in particular, the connectivity strategy, the process of intensified negotiations with the Western Balkan countries, the Eastern Partnership reform process and others were discussed.

From the side of the Georgian National Platform, the members of the coordination council focused on issues that will contribute the process of granting the candidate status for our country. also discussed the actions that damaged the process of implementing the recommendations.

The importance of strengthening cooperation with civil society and the need to implement information sharing practices were also emphasised. It was also mentioned that it is crucial to inform the population clearly and intensively, because the lack of information among the population leads to the activation of those radical forces that are openly against the Western development.

The issue of organising a joint high-level conference with the government was discussed. A date should be agreed upon in the near future to begin preparatory work for the high-level conference.
