On November 22, the third joint conference of the Georgian Parliament and the Georgian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum “Georgia’s Road to the European Union” was held.

The main thematic issue of the joint conference was the positive recommendation of the European Commission on granting candidate status and 9 new challenges. The purpose of the conference was to promote discussion and dialogue between members of parliament and representatives of civil society on the issues of Georgia’s integration into the European Union.

Within the framework of the joint conference, the participants discussed all the issues that are part of the 9 priorities, namely: reform of the judicial system, election process and depolarization, de-oligarchization, fight against media and disinformation, compliance of Georgia with the common foreign and security policy of the European Union. The conference conducted in the format of a joint discussion between the representatives of the ruling team, the opposition, the diplomatic missions and the civil sector.

The conference was chaired by the Chairman of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili and the Chairman of the National Platform, the head of the Green Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Nino Chkhobadze.

In the opening part of the event, the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of the National Platform Nino Chkhobadze and the Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia Pawel Herczynski addressed the participants and invited guests.

The leader of the parliamentary majority, Irakli Kobakhidze, and the deputy chairman of the Georgian National Platform, Lasha Tughushi, addressed the participants with an introductory speech.

All sessions of the conference were open to journalists.
